Ridiculous attack on Government run health care - take that Canada

US media is ridiculous at the best of times, but now they have been able to combine stupid adverts with a sill disliking of anything that can even slightly resemble anything close to socialism... In the firing line now: Public Health Care.

I find it greatly amusing that "patientsunitenow.com"s supposed poster child of "Bad Health care" is Canada... which boasts far better health care records than the US...

Here is the advert I am ranting about, have a look and be astonished.

surely they could have chosen a country where the health care is actually bad! what a random but hilarious attack on poor, unsuspecting Canada!

I think the solution is obvious.

A public health system available to all free of charge and a private system available to those who wish to skip the queue.

Or

A completely private system. A health fund could pay for anyone under a certain income level. This way you don't get the inefficiency of a state run system.

Well I'm not sure it is an obvious solution, but, for me what IS obvious is if large numbers of your population cant access healthcare... there is a problem and things need to change.

I hate the stupid way they convey their argument in the vid too... sure they might have public healthcare, but what about this one person here... Idiotic

The tone of in the "government runs healthcare in Canada" is nothing short of hilarious. That aside, there's next to no solid evidence throughout the ad. It's the old Goldacre bad stats argument. What percentage of people wait a year for surgery? What drugs and treatments aren't available? I know it's only a brief ad, but at least some attempts at actual solid information would be nice, as oppposed to an attempted tugging on the heart strings.

I think another aim of theirs is to align any idea that they find unsuitable with other countries - So for this instance its trying to play on the whole "US thinking Canada is lame" game... So what they are trying to say to people is "You don't want the US to be like CAAAAAAAAnada *snigger, snigger*"

The group behind this has strong republican ties. Given republican views on taxation, this is clearly an attempt to convince Americans that they do not need a health system funded by taxation. Considering the amount of people unable to afford health care, I think America desperately needs such a system.

Yeh it most certainly has a strong whiff of Republican party about it. And having been in many "rich" US cities I know first hand that healthcare for less well off citizens is a complete and utter joke.

I'm from Canada originally, a lot of what she said rings true to me. You do wait in line for things. It's better now but a lot of it is to control cost. It's good in that your not dependant on your employer for healthcare, or an insurance company that can declare things pre-exisitng, but you don't get the customer focus.
